United States Department of justice (DOJ) has alleged that the former FIFA president was bribed by the ‘Russia Oligarch’ to award hosting right of the 2018 world cup to Russia.
The allegation was published Tuesday by the DOJ as part of investigation into Russia’s meddling with the sport body to ensure Russia won the 2018 FIFA World Cup hosting right.
Although the body did not disclose the name of the president, Sepp Blatter was the FIFA president at the period in question in 2010.
The allegation originates in the report from former British intelligent officer Christopher Steele where he summarised conversation with the erstwhile Russian president Dmitry Medvedev and former prime minister Vladimir Putin.
According to the report, Putin acknowledged the 'Russian Oligarchy’ bribed FIFA so Russia would host the 2018 world cup.
